Health for Guineans
A development co-operation project Health for Guineans begun in 1999 has given the association a good name in Guinea. Keri ry asked for
material donations from health care centers of Helsinki and southern Finland. The gathered equipment together with clothes given by Emmaus Jokioinen were packed in
two containers and shipped to Guinea. Meanwhile the Guinean ministry of interior heard of this and contacted Keri association.Large groups of people had fled their homes in both Liberia and Guinea because of warring troops and come to centers for refugees in the south. The government asked Keri to hand the clothing and shoes in these refugee centers. When Keri arrived it became clear that the aid could not touch but a small part of the families in need.
The hospital equipment shipped was distributed to health care centers and hospitals. Keri association has helped to mend the destruction caused during the incursions of foreign rebels. Later the refugee women wished to be trained small business practices and they were taught soapmaking. The production is circulatory and the profits are shared equally.

The people have to walk far to get water for households, and its purity is always questionable. Still clean drinking water is a base requisite for good living. In drylands erosion and desertification continue further without a challenge and growing foodcrops becomes increasingly difficult.
Planning of a household water well system for the poor was begun together with the co-operation partners. The India-pumps were chosen as they are working with good results elsewhere in Africa. Walls will be built around them and the villagers will be educated about hygienic and sustainable use of the wells.
